We’re just beyond the halfway point of 2016, so it’s pretty safe to say that Quilt’s latest album Plaza will hold up as one of the finest releases of the year (though we did believe that back in February). The celebrated Boston psych-folk ensemble have a summer appearance at the Fuzzstival scheduled for next month, then will spend most of September touring the eastern half of North America on a co-headlining tour with Jordan Lee’s chamber-folk act Mutual Benefit.
Quilt announced the tour Tuesday afternoon, writing: “Very happy to announce that we’ll be doing a co-headline tour with our friends Mutual Benefit in September throughout parts of the USA & Canada. Dates listed below — more to come soon.” Writes Mutual Benefit on Facebook: “We are going on tour with Quilt this Fall!!! They have been inspiring me for years since we were all youngsters in Boston and it is an infinite pleasure to share a bunch of stages with them this September.”
Naturally, we hope that the “more to come” from Quilt’s note involves a New England date, because the pairing of Quilt and Mutual Benefit are an inspired match of textures sounds and aural emotions. Mutual Benefit released its latest record, Skip a Sinking Stone, back in May via Mom + Pop.
Check out a track from that album, as well as our enduring favorite off Quilt’s Plaza, down below after scanning the dates in hopes of spotting your town. Tickets to most of the shows below go on sale Friday; check yr local listings.
