By this point in June, we are pretty sure all the students have gone back to their flyover-state homes, making it safe to venture out over the weekend to see some free art. This Saturday, June 4, that free art arrives via six stages across the 37th annual Cambridge River Festival, which goes down from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Catching our attention here at Vanyaland is the Atwood’s-coordinated Energize stage, which brings a bit of everything with guitars to the Lechmere Canal. With a stage located at Lechmere Canal Park near the CambridgeSide Galleria, the afternoon showcases the sounds of Abbie Barrett & The Last Date (noon), The Silks (4 p.m.), Vapors Of Morphine (5 p.m.), and others. Elsewhere throughout the day, you can catch the likes of Guy Mendilow Ensemble (noon on DCR Cambridge Parkway Across from the Royal Sonesta Hotel), Dwight & Nicole (3 p.m. at Front Park), and Dennis Brennan (4 p.m. on the southern end of DCR Cambridge Parkway).
There’s a lot going on and six different stages to digest, so below is a full breakdown of the music portion of the fest. If you want a break from music, fear not, there will also be hands-on art-making, hundreds of artists and food vendors selling their crafts, community tables, poetry readings, interactive areas, and the second-annual running of the revived People’s Sculpture Race (which probably warrants a whole other post of its own). There will also be beer, we are told.
