Over the weekend, as Michael Christmas held Sunday afternoon court at Boston Calling with help from OG Swaggerdick and others, you got the sense, once again, that something big is happening in the local hip-hop scene. A few days later, and that sense becomes confirmation, as global online music broadcasting platform Boiler Room today has announced its inaugural dip into the Boston scene, and it’s centered around the city’s exploding rap community.
“We’re headed to Boston for the very first time to shine a light on the city’s rising rap scene,” writes Boiler Room. “We’ve got Cousin Stizz, Big Leano, Jefe Replay, OG Swaggerdick, Vintage Lee, and a DJ set from Super Smash Broz.”
It all goes down Friday at 8 p.m. a super-secret location (we know where, but we’re not telling). But don’t sweat not getting the invite. Like all Boiler Room sessions, widely respected for their international DJ showcases, the party will be broadcast live online at boilerroom.tv, which not only gives everyone here in Boston a chance to catch up, but will also spotlight what’s been bubbling under the city’s mainstream surface to a global audience.
Keep the link below handy for a portal into Friday’s session, and get to know some of the players via their Soundcloud links a bit lower in the post.
