Interview: Christine And The Queens talk gender identity, dancing while singing, and a deep love of RuPaul

Editor’s Note: Boston Calling ’16 might eventually go down as the festival that delivered an incredible one-two opening punch of hometown rapper Michael Christmas and eventual alt-pop star Christine And The Queens. The unlikely duo kicked off Sunday’s slate with styles that could not be more different, but aligned perfectly in giving the early bird crowd a glimpse of music’s future. After Christine And The Queens’ set, singer and songwriter Héloïse Letissier dropped by the Vanyaland media area to discuss the fading nature of gender identity, how she’s able to bust those dance moves on stage while singing and without losing her breath, and her deep love and affection for RuPaul, who helped inspire her project’s moniker.
