Ever since Prince passed away last month, we’ve been wondering if any of the artists playing Boston Calling Music Festival next weekend would pay tribute to the late music icon. Many seem like obvious choices to bust out some familiar purple jams at City Hall Plaza, from Disclosure and Sia to Palehound and Courtney Barnett, and especially Janelle Monáe, who opened for the Prince a few years ago when he played Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
Now it seems like Haim could be a safe bet to coat Boston’s concrete structure in purple as well, as last night at the Observatory in Southern California, the pop group kicked off their U.S. tour and busted out a fine rendition of “I Would Die 4 U” (via P4k). We’re not sure if it was a one-off or if it’ll be a staple of their sets, but we hope it finds its way into their Boston Calling performance. The band alao debuted two new tracks, which you can preview at Billboard.
Haim plays on Sunday; check out the full day lineups below.
