Weakened Friends are no longer Boston’s best-kept secret. After a spirited run to the Rock And Roll Rumble finals last month and a May tour that will take them to far-reaching outposts like Pittsburgh and Annapolis, Maryland, the guitar-rock trio led by Sonia Sturino and an endless stream of catchy-ass songs are bound for due accolades and affection far beyond the borders of New England.
With their spring tour kicking back up Thursday with a show at Birdseye Lounge in Portsmouth, Weakened Friends have teamed with New Hampshire’s Sound It Out Sessions, a YouTube channel that has recently posted live-performance-and-interview clips from Roz & The Rice Cakes and Old Etc. In the video below, which we are premiering this morning, Weakened Friends belt out “95”, the first single off their upcoming EP Crushed.
“Sound It Out’s live sessions are unique because we never just film the performance,” says director and editor Eric Walker. “We hang out with the artist and incorporate b-roll footage of the band being themselves. The videos often include candid soundbites before or after the track, and the audience gets to personally connect with not only the music but the people who make it. Sound It Out Sessions are a hybrid of live performances, music videos, and behind the scenes docs.”
Like all Sound It Out sessions, Weakened Friends’ appearance was recorded at a practice space in an old mill building in Manchester, New Hampshire, which Walker utilizes with his band, TheColorOrange. Check out the clip below, as well as all of Weakened Friends’ upcoming shows via the tour flyer.
