Go Outside, Stay Outside: These New England music festivals will get us through the summer

Over the past few years, there's been an explosion of summer music festivals around New England. And we're not just talking about Boston, which has seen an unexpected uptick in cool with the addition of Boston Calling Music Festival, the bi-annual City Hall Plaza bash that celebrates its seventh edition this Memorial Day with Robyn, Sia, Disclosure, and others. From Waking Windows in Winooski, Vermont to the legendary Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island, large-scale music parties new and old are providing the perfect road trip excuse for idle New Englanders.

With summer fast approaching, here's are a handful of upcoming fests certain to spice up your summer soundtrack and provide a sonic bop to the mid-year doldrums.

Fuzzstival

Website: 2015 event page
Dates: Late summer (most likely)
Where: Middle East, Cambridge, Massachusetts
Price: To be announced
Bands To See: To be announced
What’s The Deal: We’re including this — without any real confirmation that it will even happen — because we believe in the Fuzzstival. Jason Trefts, talent buyer for the Middle East and booking agent of Illegally Blind Presents, has put together something special in recent years with this massive, multi-stage party, bringing together Boston’s incredible psych and garage rock scenes. Last year’s weekend party featured 34 bands over three nights, led by Ghost Box Orchestra, Quilt, Doug Tuttle, Vundabar, New Highway Hymnal, Creaturos, and pretty much everyone else making a noisy racket in eastern Massachusetts.
