Go Outside, Stay Outside: These New England music festivals will get us through the summer

Over the past few years, there's been an explosion of summer music festivals around New England. And we're not just talking about Boston, which has seen an unexpected uptick in cool with the addition of Boston Calling Music Festival, the bi-annual City Hall Plaza bash that celebrates its seventh edition this Memorial Day with Robyn, Sia, Disclosure, and others. From Waking Windows in Winooski, Vermont to the legendary Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island, large-scale music parties new and old are providing the perfect road trip excuse for idle New Englanders.

With summer fast approaching, here's are a handful of upcoming fests certain to spice up your summer soundtrack and provide a sonic bop to the mid-year doldrums.

Outside The Box

Website: otbboston.com
Dates: July 12 to 17
Where: Boston Common
Price: Free
Bands To See: To Be Announced
What’s The Deal: After taking 2014 off to regroup, last year’s Outside the Box was a more condensed affair, highlighted by a collaboration with Radio 92.9 to bring Gin Blossoms, Guster, New Politics and others to the Common. This year’s lineup has yet to be announced, but with a call currently out for dozens of bands and performers, there should be at least one reason to roll downtown and see some bands for the nice-price of free this July.
