We don’t mean to alarm anyone, but there’s a new Red Hot Chili Peppers song arriving later in the week. And for better or worse, it’s probably not a full-band rendition of Flea’s bass-happy National Anthem.
A few minutes ago — a few red hot minutes ago — the band teased out a new track called “Dark Necessities” and it will crash land on our planetary ears this Thursday, April 5. The Chili Peppers’ accompanied the note (a simple message of “New song Thursday”) with a very late-’90s Dreamweaver-esque banner image.
Check it:
We don’t know if the band will charge 99 cents for the track, or if they will give it away give it away give it away now.
We’ll know more in a few days, for sure. But we do know that this is a nice change of pace from what Radiohead are currently doing to their fans.
The last RHCP album, in case you were wondering, was 2011’s I’m With You. This past Friday, drummer Chad Smith and comedian Will Ferrell hosted the Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceanera in Los Angeles, and our friends at Ultimate Classic Rock has a full account.
Also of note — the Chili Peppers will headline the 25th anniversary of Lollapalooza this summer. It goes down July 28 to 31 at Grant Park in Chicago.
