Fresh off their victory in the 2016 Rock And Roll Rumble, Worshipper have announced that they’ve signed to New York label Tee Pee Records, and their anticipated debut LP, Shadow Hymns, will be out this summer. The news was relayed Thursday morning by the Obelisk.
Worshipper join a Tee Pee operation that has released records from High On Fire, Graveyard, Whirr, King Tuff, and Pittsburgh’s Carousel, the band that nicked guitarist Alejandro Necochea for their current European tour. The release of Shadow Hymns on August 28 means the next few months in Boston get even heavier, as the LP joins a list of highly anticipated releases from homegrown bands like Gozu, Phantom Glue, and Ascend/Descend.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to be welcomed to the Tee Pee family,” Necochea says in a press release. “We think it’s a perfect fit and we are immensely proud to have our music released by the same label that put out some of our favorite records of the past couple decades.”
It’s been a good run for Worshipper over the past year or so. In addition to their Rumble crown, the quartet scored a Boston Music Award last year for Best Metal Artist, and despite only having two double-single releases to their name (January 2015’s “Black Corridor”/”High Above the Clouds” and August 2015’s “Place Beyond the Light”/”Step Behind”), are already one of Boston’s more celebrated rock bands.
Shadow Hymns was recorded at Q Division, Mad Oak, and Converse Rubber Tracks Studios with producers Benny Grotto (Aerosmith, Orange Goblin) and David Minehan (The Replacements). Check out the band’s previously released songs below.
