Sweet And Lowell Down: Idle Pilot release jostling new single, announce LP, head out on tour

At the risk of repeating ourselves, we’ll say it again: The best part of the Rock And Roll Rumble is getting to see new bands in their natural habitat — a live setting. For Lowell trio Idle Pilot, the April throwdown gave us here in Boston a chance to hear their intricate guitar-rock compositions leap off the stage with an aggression and complexity that may have been lost in their recorded offerings. It was a nice awakening.

Now, Idle Pilot attempt to bottle both that momentum and live ferocity with a new full-length album, titled You Are Presently Looking Upwards and due May 27 through Ocelot Records and Head vs. Heart Tapes. The first single off the record is the jostling rock jerker “Questionable Status”, and you can allow it to be the best 127 seconds of your day via the Soundcloud embed below.

“Since we released our last album I think our live show has taken on a new sort of intensity, even performing our older material,” frontman Alex Miller tells Vanyaland. “That direction has bled over into our songwriting for this new release which I feel captures that evolution nicely.”

To celebrate You Are Presently Looking Upwards, Idle Pilot will host a release party May 27 at UnchARTed in Lowell, a free, head-nodding affair with Glacier, Think Tank, and Horse Mode. Check out the flyer below, created by Dug McCormack, and check out Idle Pilot’s spring tour dates as well.
