Sound Of Pictures: Here’s where to find music at the Independent Film Festival Boston

The Independent Film Festival Boston launches tonight in Somerville with The Hollars, a comedy directed by Newton native and The Office alum John Krasinski with a cast including Charlie DayAnna Kendrick and Margo Martindale. It's one of 25 feature films, nearly 40 documentaries, and over 50 short films that will screen over the next week at the Somerville Theatre, the Brattle, UMass Boston and the Coolidge Corner Theatre.

And with more than 100 movies to choose from, it can be a bit daunting to narrow down the selections. We've been sifting through the lineup here at Vanyaland HQ, and have come up with a handful that should make for a good starting point.

Colin Hay – Waiting for My Real Life
Somerville Theatre (Screen 5) — Monday, May 2 at 9:45 p.m.

Colin Hay is best known as the former frontman for Men at Work, the Australian band known for the early-’80s hits “Down Under” and “Who Can it Be Now?” Waiting for My Real Life tells the story of where his life went following the disbanding of the outfit in 1986, one that put him on the path to a solo career which became even more artistically satisfying than the limelight that came with his previous outfit. The documentary uses behind the scenes footage from Hay’s 2013 tour of the US, Europe, and Australia and features interviews with close family, friends, and such celebrity admirers as Mick Fleetwood, director/actor Zach Braff, and actors Hugh Jackman and Guy Pearce.

Director Nate Gowtham will be in attendance at the Monday screening.
