Yesterday, a verified Twitter account for the Smiths sprang up out of nowhere.
While most were smart enough to realize it was definitely not the first sign of some oncoming reunion — like, say Slowdive’s venture into social media in 2014 — there were questions about its creation. Turns out, it’s an account run by Warner Bros to promote reissues and other Smiths news pertaining to the record label.
And as expected, Morrissey is having none of it.
Authorized fan site True To You has issued a warning via the former Smiths frontman, which comes with all the necessary admonishment expected from the camp of Sir Moz. It reads: “Morrissey would like to stress that this account has not been sanctioned by him and has no connection to him. Follow it at your peril.”
Stop us if you think that you’ve read that tweet before.
Please note this account is purely to celebrate the history and the music of The Smiths.
