There’s nothing like a bit of Fitz And The Tantrums on a nice spring day. It’s even better when it costs the nice-price of free.
The lineup for the 2016 EarthFest, the annual free outdoor concert organized by Radio 92.9 FM, isn’t expected to be out for another few weeks, but it looks like a headliner slipped through the cracks this morning via Fitz & the Tantrums’ big album and tour announcement.
The Los Angeles neo-soul and pop group this morning revealed a new record (a self-titled LP set for release June 10), a new single (the bouncy and sure-fire hit “HandClap”), and a string of spring and summer tour dates. Included in the live slate is a May 21 listing to play the Edward A. Hatch Memorial Shell.
It’s the only Boston date on Fitz’ summer tour (in fact, it’s a pre-tour show, and their only date in May), though there is a June 19 show at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in New Hampshire.
Last year’s EarthFest was tied into the Outside The Box music and arts festival on Boston Common, and featured a free show with Guster, New Politics, Atlas Genius, and local upstart Hunter. In December, it was announced that EarthFest would be returning to the Hatch Shell, where since 2003 it has hosted concerts by Neon Trees, Third Eye Blind, Soul Asylum, The Lemonheads, The Wallflowers, Peter Wolf, Sheryl Crow, Sister Hazel, and dozens of others.
The full 2016 EarthFest lineup will be revealed on Earth Day, April 22. In the meantime, vibe out for the weekend with Fitz’ new jam below, and check their entire tour itinerary after the jump.
