Last month a few select Peter Wolf live dates started tricking out, all to support the legendary Boston musician’s new album A Cure For Loneliness. Now, in advance of the record’s release next month, we are not only getting a sweet, sweet taste of the LP, but some closer-to-home tour stops as well.
Listen to the heartfelt “Wastin’ Time” below, and take note: Wolf plays the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square on May 12.
Billed as Wolf’s eighth solo release, A Cure For Loneliness is out April 8 via Concord Records. Among its 12 songs are nine new Wolf originals, four of them co-written with Grammy/Academy Award-winning songwriter Will Jennings, as well as a bluegrass reworking of J. Geils Band’s “Love Stinks”.
Wolf recorded A Cure For Loneliness with a host of special guests and his Midnight Travelers band, including guitarists Duke Levine and Kevin Barry, bassist Marty Ballou, and drummers Tom Arey and Shawn Pelton. “I try to work with musicians where there’s compatibility in personalities and musical vision,” says Wolf in a press release. “What’s nice is the camaraderie that you develop when you’re collaborating with the same group of people over a long period of time. And it’s exciting to see what comes together when you’re working with artists of enormous talents. I always go in prepared, but you never really know how things are going to work out. Maybe a song that you expected to be a ballad becomes an uptempo song in rehearsal, or vice versa, and that’s where the value and excitement of collaboration comes in.”
