Back To The Star: Belly announce 2016 reunion, promise full tour and new music

Twenty years after their breakup, Belly has announced a comeback. Hungry trees are rejoicing across the land.

The Boston alt-rock band, which was formed in 1991 by Tanya Donelly after she parted with Throwing Muses, made the announcement today via their homepage, bellyofficial.com. And on the way are a handful of reunion shows in both North America and United Kingdom, as well as new music. The band released a heathy amount of music between 1991 and 1996, including two well-received LPs (1993's Star, which spawned the singles "Feed The Tree" and "Gepetto", and 1995's King), eight EPs, and 10 singles, becoming favorites of the college rock scene and late-night programs like 120 Minutes. They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone on April 20, 1995.

"Belly is very happy to announce that we will be reuniting to play some shows this coming summer in the US and the UK," the band writes. "Dates will be announced as they are confirmed, but right now we can tell you with relative confidence that the UK shows will fall in the middle of July, and US shows will be scattered throughout August and possibly into September."

The reunited Belly lineup will feature Donelly (singer/guitar), Gail Greenwood (bass), Thomas Gorman (guitar) and Chris Gorman (drums), and new tunes will be part of the Belly 2.0 experience.

"We’ve also got a handful of brand new Belly songs in various stages of writing and recording, that we’ll be releasing one by one over the next few months," they add. "First previews will be right here on the website! In the meantime... new swag! We’ve got a couple beautiful new t’s and other extras designed by Chris Gorman, with more to come. Please keep checking this site, as we will be updating it regularly with news and information (and music). We are very excited to be playing together again, and hope to see you out there in Summer of 2016!
