We’re still several months away from Record Store Day 2016 — and nearly as long a time from any possible outdoor yard sales. But Club Passim is hoping to fill the winter doldrums with a benefit CD and vinyl sale this Sunday, January 17, that’ll help raise money for the long-running Harvard Square live music venue.
Much of the stock at the sale comes from the personal collection of Matt Smith.
It was really just a fun idea to fill an open date on the calendar,” Smith tells Vanyaland. “I’d had a CD yard sale of my own this summer and it went really well, but there were a lot of CDs left over — so we thought we’d open it up to donations and have an all-day sale at the club! Most of the stuff for sale right now comes from my personal collection, but we are also taking donations from folks (a few have dropped off boxes of CDs already!).
Those looking to donate a box or twelve can email Smith directly at matt@passim.org.
In addition to the sale, there will also be live music, and Passim will also be showcasing some new offerings from its food menu and hosting a drink tasting. There is no cover to attend, and most CDs will be priced at $5 or less. Proceeds from the CD and vinyl sale will go to Passim and its various community music programs.
The event runs from noon to 7 p.m. For more information, check in on the Facebook event page.
