As news spread tonight that hard rock and metal icon Lemmy Kilmister had died at the age of 70, tributes from the legendary Motörhead frontman's friends and fans began pouring in on social media.

After the news was first broke by That Metal Show host Eddie Trunk on Twitter, the band followed up shortly with a statement, which read, in part: “There is no easy way to say this... our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer... We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please... play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself."

With that, many on Twitter in the music community, both fans and friends of Lemmy, began sharing their thoughts. Ozzy Osbourne wrote: “Lost one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He will be sadly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. I will see you on the other side.” Added Paul Stanley of KISS: "Truly one of a kind. Much more to him than many knew."

Here are some of the sentiments that began to file in on Monday night...
