Rapper, poet and radical activist Jared Paul is never afraid to speak his mind. He’s also never afraid to spit fire on how he feels about his favorite treat becoming gradually overpriced. This is what “$8 Smoothie” conveys, a lyrical examination of how a simple drink like a fruit smoothie has become adopted by the hipster boutiques. Paul uses this reality as a symbol of gentrification, economic inequality and how healthier food is getting more and more expensive. A socially conscious jam, there are also some killer organ samples brought in by producer Tommy Fox that gives it a streetwise vibe.
