7. Meg Myers, “Lemon Eyes” [Atlantic Records]

Yeah, sure, that guitar riff in the chorus has a bit of Green Day’s “Brain Stew” to it, but the Los Angeles singer-songwriter overcomes that with a gauntlet drop of an indie banger. A hardcore breakdown is somehow tucked into a stalker-ish alt-pop love song, and we are captivated. There was a lot to like on Myers’ debut LP Sorry, but “Lemon Eyes” hit the greatest heights.
