8. Class Actress, “More Than You” [Casablanca/Republic]
Class Actress’ 2010 EP Journal of Ardency was a master stroke of icy, ‘80s-seduced synthpop. A year later, the New York trio took a step back with the uneven Rapprocher LP, which failed to capitalize on frontwoman Elizabeth Harper’s strengths. Which are, mainly, Elizabeth Harper. With Class Actress now a Harper solo project, it redefined itself this year with Movies, a glitzy EP set against a hollywood backdrop of sun-kissed pools and the sketchy nightclub backrooms were deals and dreams are made. “More Than You” turned on the sultry, and put Harper back in the role of femme fatale.
