3. The Weeknd, “The Hills” [XO/Republic]

A few years ago there was an FM Radio station that bragged about playing songs that didn’t have “lyrics that would embarrass you in front of your kids.” That station could never play “The Hills”, Abel Tesfaye’s unlikely Number 1 hit about late-night booty calls and evil selfishness within gated residentials. “The Hills” might be the most fucked up mega-hit in recent memory, but Tesfaye’s real talk lines about love and lust are only surpassed by the thunderous bass that dominates the song.
