6. Death Cab For Cutie, “No Room In Frame” [Atlantic Records]
Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and company returned to scene in 2015 certainly in rougher shape than when the band last gave us music. On Kintsugi are songs clearly songs about Gibbard’s divorce from actress and She and Him songstress, Zooey Deschanel; the tone and tenor here is a far cry from the head-over-the-heels songs dotting 2012’s Codes and Keys. Gibbard plays best when his cards are on the table and his heart rests squarely on his sleeve. “No Room In Frame” opens Kintsugi and gets right to the heart of the matter, his very public breakup with a very famous starlet.
