Not to be outdone by all the goodwill amassed by U2 in the weeks since the terrorist attacks on Paris, Madonna rolled into a public park in the French capital last night and led an acoustic sing-a-long of John Lennon’s classic song for peace, “Imagine.”
The impromptu performance at the Place de la Republique also included “Like A Prayer” and “Ghosttown”, according to the NME, and happened not too long after her sold-out appearance at Paris’ Bercy Arena.
The mini-set, with Monte Pittman on guitar, was a way to honor the victims of the November 13 terrorist attacks, as well as Lennon, who died 35 years ago this week.
“Everybody knows why we’re here,” Madonna tells the crowd, according to reports. “We just want to sing a few songs about peace, just to spread love and joy, and to pay our honor and respect to the people who died almost four weeks ago. And to spread light… we all need it.”
