If Justin Bieber has Lyft on his side, then Lucius have Uber. Or “Ooober,” to be exact.
The Brooklyn indie-pop group, led by Berklee College of Music alumna and singer-songwriter duo Jess Wolfe (vocals/synth) and Holly Laessig (vocals/keys), returned today with the announcement of new LP Good Grief, due March 11 via Mom + Pop Music. The album’s first single, the buoyant and bubbly “Born Again Teen,” takes Wolfe and Laessig on a ride-sharing journey with a vibrant cast of characters.
“Care to share a ride with Lucius?” they ask. “Then hop in, but only if you don’t mind making stops to pick up some ‘friends,’ taking a quick detour when the cops show up and hearing their new single ‘Born Again Teen’ along the way. Don’t worry: There’s time for an ice cream break.
We all need a bit of ice cream, especially since Lucius describe the Shawn Everett- and Bob Ezrin-produced album as exploring “loneliness, sadness and exhaustion alongside excitement, fulfillment and some of the most joyful moments in our lives.” That last part refers to the swirl of pop madness that’s followed since the release of 2013’s Wildewoman. Since then, they’ve served notice everywhere from clubs across the country to New England festivals like Boston Calling and Newport Folk.
