A few weeks ago the Stone Roses caused a small bit of hysteria in the United Kingdom after a series of mysterious posters depicting the indie band’s famed lemon logo started popping up in shops around Manchester. The stunt built buzz for a special Stone Roses announcement, which was later revealed to be a headlining gig at Scottish music fest T In The Park in June 2016, four shows that same month at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, and a July appearance at Dublin’s Marlay Park.
This week, similar lemon posters started popping up in Doncaster, and speculation soared over a potential “warm-up” Roses gig in the market town situated east of Manchester and just outside Sheffield.
The NME reports the posters “had been spotted at numerous places around Doncaster, including the Revolver clothes store, the Notorious Aardvark record store and Doncaster Tourist information centre. The poster led fans to suggest a gig might take place at Doncaster’s Diamond Live Lounge.”
Turns out, those posters were just for the Stone Roses tribute band, the Clone Roses, who the NME confirmed are playing the Diamond Live Lounge on January 29.
Well played, lads. Well played.
