Noel Heroux is a busy dude. In addition to running Killer Wail Records with his partner-in-rhyme Jessica Zambri — which has already yielded the fantastic Philosophical Zombie album — the former Hooray For Earth frontman has been hard at work on some new music of his own. A few weeks ago it was revealed his solo project, Mass Gothic, had signed to Sub Pop, and today we get a very tasty first taste of the new sound in first single “Nice Night.”
It’s a fuzzy, liquidy, riffy bit of self-contained bounce-rock, and does some awesomely ungodly things to our earholes at the 2:36 mark. This is the kind of shit that makes you want to climb tall buildings and aggressively yell peaceful things to the people below.
“Nice Night” is the first track off Mass Gothic’s debut LP, which is out February 5. The album was produced by Mass Gothic and mixed Chris Coady (Beach House, TV on the Radio) and mastered by Greg Calbi (Father John Misty, Tame Impala) at Sterling Sound. Pre-order the LP here.
To support the new record, Mass Gothic has also announced a 2016 tour that kicks off February 4 in Philly and concludes in March at SXSW. Along the way, Mass Gothic stops at Allston’s Great Scott on February 25 and the Columbus Theatre in Providence the following night.
Both nights promise to be… nice.
