Boston musician Matthew Politoski has spent the past few years as frontman of indie rock band Animal Flag, sharing the stage with everyone from Julian Casablancas And The Voidz to Meat Wave. All the while, the multi-instumentalist has been involved in other areas bands, like Burglary Years and Yeehaw, but also has been quietly working on an electronic-based side project called Bad Dreams.
Today we are excited to premiere Bad Dreams’ engaging new EP, It’s Such A Beautiful Day, a five-song release out today and led by two excellently airy synth-pop singles, “Shrink” and the title track.
“Bad Dreams started because I needed an outlet for all the electronic/production based music that I was/am working on,” Politoski tells Vanyaland. “I put out an electronic album with my main project, Animal Flag, in 2013. But since then the sound of the band has turned away from electronic and is currently more rock oriented. So it made sense to put all of my production based work towards another project. I put out an ambient drone album under Bad Dreams a couple months ago. This new release… is a collection of dream-pop songs based on movies that I’ve watched [and] movie stars I’m obsessed with. My future releases with this project will probably be darker and more minimalist. So yeah, my goal is to have a pretty diverse set of releases with Bad Dreams.”
