2016 has been the year of the cover and collaboration, and last night, the latter reached peak levels of indie rock royalty goodness. The National were headlining the Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco, and invited CHVRCHES‘ Lauren Mayberry up on stage to sing “I Need My Girl,” off the New York rock band’s 2013 LP Trouble Will Find Me.
There were no off-hand marriage proposals shouted out from the crowd, but hearts sure did melt.
Meanwhile, National frontman Matt Berninger has a new project, EL VY, and they play the Sinclair in Cambridge on November 15. And while CHVRCHES recently played Boston Calling Music Festival last month and don’t have any New England appearances lined up, Boston electronic pop act Telelectrix are performing a full set of the Scottish trio’s music at the second annual Vanyaland Halloween show, October 30 at Great Scott in Allston. The costume party also features the Daily Pravda performing the music of Trainspotting and Band Without Hands as Garbage, and advance tickets are available here.
