Real Live Wire: Listen to TeleVibes’ fuzzy cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer’

It’s the season of the Halloween cover show around Boston, and while TeleVibes do have a gig two weeks from tonight, and it is billed as a spooky costume party, it is not a tribute performance to guitar heroes of yesterday. So the Massachusetts psychedelic surf-pop band got into the spirit of the hat-tip season anyway yesterday with a fuzzed out cover of Talking Heads’ 1977 classic, “Psycho Killer.” Listen to it below.

Previously, our favorite “Psycho Killer” cover was from the minds and body of Britpop gents Marion back in the mid-’90s, but this might take over the top slot. It still sounds like the TeleVibes while keeping a due bit of respect to David Byrne and company.

Hadden Stemp of the New Highway Hymnal and 456 Records lays down the production, Madison McConkey provides the visual to accompany the YouTube clip, and Peter Colpack is thanked in the credits for providing his usual psychedelic wizardry. We have no idea what he actually contributed to here on the “Psycho Killer” cover, but we’re sure the vibes were essential.

As for that Halloween show we reference up top, it’s an Illegally Blind Presents show October 29 at the Middle East in Cambridge and also features Vundabar, CreaturoS, MiniDresses, and Wakes.

That’s one killer party, psycho.
