The companion soundtrack to Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck is set to be released next month, and last night, a first taste of The Home Recordings surfaced online. An acoustic demo of “Sappy,” a track Cobain struggled with for years, which, after several different attempts, finally appeared as Nirvana track “Verse Chorus Verse” for the 1993 No Alternative compilation, is available to hear below.
The lo-fi track is part of a collection Cobain reportedly taped by himself on a home stereo between 1986 and 1994. In addition to The Home Recordings release, “Sappy” will be available on 7-inch, accompanied by a cover of the Beatles’ 1964 track “And I Love Her.”
SPIN reports this morning that “Sappy” became available after pieces of a jigsaw puzzle were rearranged on the Montage Of Heck website. The Home Recordings album is out November 13, the same day Montage of Heck gets the DVD and Blu-ray release treatment.
