Bosstones announce 2015 Hometown Throwdown; Neighborhoods, Upper Crust, Real Kids to support [updated]

UPDATE Sept. 9, 3:12 p.m.: Bishop & Rook has the scoop on the support acts, which do tie in to the Rat theme we speculated about last night. The Bosstones write: “We’ll be Throwing Down this year with groups that literally built Boston’s underground music scene while paving the way for future generations and inspiring countless bands including the Bosstones.” That includes:

December 26: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Neighborhoods, The Upper Crust
December 27: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Real Kids, The Queers
December 28: The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Outlets, Stranglehold

It’s that time of year — the Hometown Throwdown is coming.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones announced via Twitter moments ago that they will return to the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street for three nights this winter: December 26, 27, and 28. It’ll be the Hometown Throwdown’s 18th party in Boston, and tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. via Live Nation.

Though it’s too early to speculate on any sort of themes or openers, the flyer the Bosstones just tweeted out does give a shout out to old Kenmore Square rock club the Rathskeller. The old awning of the Rat can be seen faded out inside the band’s logo, and there’s a sketchy-looking rat character in the flyer’s illustration, along with a Blanta and the Bosstones’ bulldog . Could be a clue, could be nothing — hey khed who knows?!

Support acts should be announced in the coming weeks. Last year, the Bosstones welcomed Fishbone, Big D & The Kids Table, Andrew WK, a reunited Lost City Angels, and others to the party on Lansdowne.

More to come. In the meantime, peep the visual…
