Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been a hot topic not among American citizens lately, but musicians as well. Last week Dee Snider of Twisted Sister said he was cool with Trump using “We’re Not Gonna Take It” at campaign stops, while in June, Neil Young took the opposite approach, pulling the plug on the billionaire using “Rockin’ In The Free World.” And we won’t even get into the whole Ernie Boch Jr thing.
Now Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe has chimed in on the Donald, and it has nothing to do with song rights. Speaking with 99.9 KISW at the Washington state radio station’s “Pain in the Grass” party, Blythe discussed several topics, including his first-ever concert (a 1988 show in Virginia with Bad Brains, Corrosion of Conformity, and Leeway, nice!). and Lamb Of God’s new record, Sturm Und Drang, which hit Number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. Then the conversation got political — and a bit heated.
Metal Insider has the transcript, which you can read parts of below…
How about this, Donald Trump is #1 on the Republican side of —
Can I just start cussing? Is this on FM? Is this on FM radio?
Are we live right now? No?
F*ck that dude! (crowd cheers) All right, look. I’ve been in Lamb of God twenty years, right? I’ve had a job since I was 14. For ten of the twenty years when I was in Lamb of God, I was a roofer and a restaurant worker at the same time; I didn’t hatch out of a rock-star egg. Donald Trump does not know what the common man does. He has no clue what the average working person goes through in order to pay their bills.
He does not give a fuck about you; he gives a fuck about protecting big business and the lobbies. You know what I mean? So fuck that guy, and fuck his hair. He has no need to be the president of the United States. Just ’cause you’re rich doesn’t mean you should be president of the United States.
Let’s take away the campaign funding, right? Let’s take it all out. The Internet is free, okay? Why don’t you speak about real issues. Take away the money. You know what I mean? They don’t need a bazillion dollars to run a presidential campaign; I’m sorry, it’s just not true. Go to YouTube, you know?
I can’t believe that guy is #1 still. I just wanted to ask, since you’re an intellectual.
It’s hideous. Not just the presidency, but our Congress has been a disgrace. Bipartisan politics, fighting over party lines. Why don’t they care about the American people instead of whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican. You know what I mean? Let’s deal with some issues.
