All sorts of crazy shit happened tonight at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards: The Weeknd crushed it on stage and continued his ascent into fame’s stratosphere, Nicky Minaj (apparently) called out host Miley Cyrus for comments made to the New York Times, and Justin Bieber cried after his live performance. Oh, and Kanye West announced his intention to run for President of the United States of America.
What a night.
At the tail end, a few minutes after flashing some “accidental” nipple backstage, Cyrus took to the stage to sing a kinda-meh song about smoking weed, flanked by twerkers and drag queens and Wayne Coyne. That song she performed seems to be featured on her new record, the follow-up to 2013’s Bangerz mixtape, that is apparently available for free download right the eff now via mileycyrusandherdeadpetz.com. Cyrus announced the record on stage, as the flashed the url on TV screens, like a local band telling you they’ll be playing Great Scott next month and you should totally go.
Of course, we can’t get the link to load. It must be a post-VMAs crush. So keep on checking during the night — the West Coast VMAs broadcast began a half-hour ago — and we’ll all huddle and touch base in the morning to see if it’s any good.
UPDATE 11:59 p.m.: The Dead Petz songs are on Soundcloud, and we think the song she sang at the VMAs earlier this evening is called “Dooo It!” We’re already calling “Karen Don’t Be Sad” one of the best things she’s ever done. There’s also a track about her late dog, Floyd. Buckle up.
UPDATE 12:06 a.m.: Here’s the music video for “Dooo It!”
