These days, we’re used to new and unheard music from Nirvana and Kurt Cobain being mysteriously unearthed after two decades. So it’s refreshing today to hear a good old fashioned punk-rock cover from the grunge band’s iconic catalog, and this one comes from none other than tennis legend John McEnroe.
Are you freaking kidding me? Nope.
According to the NME, the seven-time grand slam tennis champion got gritty on guitar and vocals for a cover of Nirvana’s “Territorial Pissings” last weekend at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York. McEnroe performed with his wife and Scandal singer Patty Smyth, and New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who was probably drinking out of bowls all night because he doesn’t own any Cups.
Smyth’s set included new wave hits “Goodbye to You” and “The Warrior,” and at the end invited hubby McEnroe up for the final song. Watch video below.
