Back in June, Neil Young made headlines when he asked Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump to stop using his music along the campaign trail. But the Donald won’t find any such opposition from Dee Snider, who is allowing Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” to be used at recent campaign stops by the controversial politician.
In a new interview with TMZ, Snider says that he’s not collecting any royalties from Trump using the ’80s rock anthem, and while he supports Trump, he’s not opposed to Bernie Sanders using it, too.
“Donald Trump is a good friend and a great guy and I support him,” Snider says when approached by TMX recently in Beverly Hills. “turning the political system on its head. The song ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ is about rebellion, and there’s nothing more rebellious than what Donald Trump is doing right now.”
Snider, who admits he doesn’t agree with everything Trump says and stopped short of giving him an official endorsement, says that Trump called him in advance and asked if he could use the song. “I said ‘Look, you’re a buddy of mine and I like what you’re doing, so go for it.'”
As for Sanders, Snider adds that the Vermont outsider is “turning things upside down, too.” Watch the full interview below, which also touches on Deez Nuts and whether we might see Twisted Sister at any Trump upcoming rallies…
