Touch of Fenway: Due to lack of pennant race, Red Sox to host Grateful Dead Night next month

The 2015 Red Sox season, what a long, strange trip it has been.

But two things are certain as the disappointing campaign comes to a close: The Red Sox are way out of it in the American League East (now just a two-dog fight between the Yankees and Blue Jays), and the Grateful Dead will never, ever play Fenway Park.

What’s left to do, then? Host a Grateful Dead Night at Fenway.

And that is what’s coming to the ballpark on September 21, when the Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays in what should be a meaningless game for both cubs. Fans who buy a special Grateful Dead-designed ticket will get a specialty t-shirt and watch Massachusetts-based Grateful Dead cover band Fennario perform live on Yawkey Way. The Cardinals and Reds are hosting similar promotions, celebrating the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary, according to JamBase.

Here are the details and ticket info:

“Boston Red Sox to Host Grateful Dead Night”

The Boston Red Sox will celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary on September 21 at historic Fenway Park as they face off against the Tampa Bay Rays. With the purchase of a ticket to the game (which will be a special edition Grateful Dead-themed ticket), fans will receive a specially designed Red Sox Grateful Dead t-shirt. The shirt can be redeemed at the Yawkey Way team store. In addition, Massachusetts-based Grateful Dead tribute act Fennario will perform pre-game beginning at 5:40 PM. Also, a portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will go to the Rex Foundation, the official charity of the Grateful Dead. All ticketing information can be found here
