Earlier this week in Dave Grohl Is Awesome, a new online periodical we are all subscribed to, the Foo Fighters made headlines after they serenaded a crying Colorado man with a rendition of “My Hero.” The impromptu performance came during the band’s Sunday show in Greenwood Village, when Grohl saw the guy crying and brought him up to the stage.
“Where are you going motherfucker? Get back here!” Grohl yelled to the guy. “No you get here, front row. I’m going to sing this to your crying grown man ass right now. Front row, against the rail, right here, get in here motherfucker, you drunk emotional mess!”
Well, it was revealed recently that the man in question, named Anthony, had just returned from burying his mother abroad. He called in to Colorado’s KBCO-FM radio station yesterday to relay the ordeal. Via SPIN, he said: “My mum died about six months ago and I just got back from Europe putting her in her crypt… He [Grohl] started singing it and I felt all emo.”
Some, including Grohl, speculated that Anthony was drunk during the show, but he says that’s not the case. “I was dead sober,” he said, according to the NME. “I don’t drink. I might have had a little Colorado green but I’m not a drinker.”
Anthony says he wasn’t afraid to show a little emotion, but didn’t want to show that kind of face to Grohl.
“I was crying, I’m not afraid to cry,” he added. “I started getting all teared up. I was trying to hide from him.”
