Watching the rise of Meg Myers has been almost as fun as listening to her music. The Tennessee-born, Los Angeles-based songwriter and composer has captivated us for the past few years, dropping hypnotic singles like “Desire” and “Sorry” that made a case for the alt-pop upstart to take a place alongside some of the genre’s biggest names.
Today on intense new single “Lemon Eyes,” off her upcoming debut album Sorry — out September 18 on Atlantic Records — Myers takes another leap forward. The single’s massive guitar riffs and towering chorus is bringing all sorts of Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple comparisons (we even hear some When Particles Collide in there), but this is simply another piece in the Meg Myers puzzle that is slowly unfolding before our eyes.
And like her previous singles, the song packs a heathy dose of emotion. “‘Lemon Eyes’ is about reassuring someone who is feeling the sourness of jealousy that they are yours, and you are theirs,” she says via Stereogum, which premiered the track this morning.
She’ll hit the road with AWOLNATION later this year after appearances at Austin City Limits and Las Vegas’ Life is Beautiful Festival, and we’ll no doubt get a full on tour to support Sorry either later in the year or in early 2016. Hopefully you caught her a few weeks ago at T.T. The Bear’s Place; don’t say we didn’t warn you.
