It’s long been said that two ‘Heads are better than one, and that holds true even with one-fifth of a certain ‘Head is involved. Last night at the UK’s Latitude Festival in Suffolk, England, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke made a surprise appearance with Portishead, providing a vocal duet with Beth Gibbons on “The Rip.”
As SPIN notes, Yorke has experience with the intense track, from Portishead’s 2008 LP Third, having covered it in the past. But last night, it was a thrill to hear his vocals weave in and out and alongside with Gibbons’, and even cooler to hear the crowd’s response grow louder as they realized what was going on up on stage.
Yorke wasn’t done with the surprises at the tenth annual Latitude Festival, however, playing a solo set later on that night that also reportedly features some unreleased material. But it’s this captivating performance with the Bristol group that has us in a daze this morning.
