A few weeks ago it was announced that homegrown trio the Ballroom Thieves would be added to this year’s Newport Folk Festival, adding some Boston flavor to a lineup dominated by large-font, national outing acts. And now, the annual music fest at Fort Adams State Park is set to add a whole lot more New England sounds to its 2015 lineup, courtesy of Converse Rubber Tracks.
Converse has teamed up with Newport Folk for the aptly-titled Converse Rubber Tracks X Newport Folk Festival Recording Week, which will offer three new bands two days of free recording time at the recently-unveiled Rubber Tracks studios in Boston, as well as a slot playing the Museum Stage at next weekend’s Newport Folk.
Registration is open until Friday, July 17.
Artists will be selected on July 20, and their appearance at Newport is scheduled for July 24. After the festival weekend, the selected bands will then head to the Rubber Tracks studio for two days each over the week of July 27 to August 1 to record with Seth Manchester, acclaimed producer from Rhode Island-based analog and digital recording studio Machines With Magnets.
This year’s Newport Folk Fest features performances by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, the Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Courtney Barnett, Tallest Man On Earth, Hozier, First Aid Kit, Jason Isbel, Shakey Graves, J Mascis, Joe Pug, and others. The festival is sold out.
