Usually Justin Bieber gets featured on these digital pages when the young pop star does something stupid. But now we get a chance to hype the Biebs for his contributions in music, as Diplo and Skrillex dropped their Jack Ü video for “Where Are Ü Now”.
The clip features vocalist Bieber getting drawn on by the attendees of the Seventh Letter Gallery in Los Angeles, who as Pitchfork notes “were invited to draw over still images of Bieber dancing. Their contributions were then curated by the directing duo Brewer, who turned them into this psychedelic clip featuring those images in motion.”
In addition to the video, Diplo and Skrillex also released a statement as Jack Ü:
We are being overwhelmed, in a good way, by the success of “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber, so with the video we wanted to just take it back to the beginning of the record & essentially create an ode to our fans. Doing what we do, it’s entirely all about the fans. We walk a fine line by being “famous” and in the public eye but we are only here because of you, the fans. Justin wrote this record during a tough time in his life and it comes to us that sometimes, as artists, we are also just objects and we have to take that as much as we have to use that to create. We all do this for you, respect that you put us here and it’s Ü that made the video.
Meanwhile, the Mad Decent Block Party — featuring Diplo, Major Lazer, Skrillex, Jack Ü, Tyler, The Creator, T-Pain, and others — kicks off its summer tour July 31 in Atlanta.
It doesn’t come to Boston.
