Legendary musician, producer, and guitarist Nile Rodgers has done it all. And at this point in time, we do mean all, as it has been reported this week that Rodgers is working on a collaboration with New Zealand-born Australian country music performer Keith Urban that’s described as… wait for it… “EDM-country.”
Just when you thought bro-country was the new EDM, the two genres went ahead and got lucky together.
Here’s word from Fact Magazine, which pulls together some sources:
Nile Rodgers has dipped his toes into many genres over the years, but his next project will take him into uncharted territory. According to Yahoo Music’s Ram Country website he’s working on an “EDM-country” project with Australian singer Keith Urban.
According to the journalist who was played the songs by an excited Rodgers in the back of an SUV, one of the songs features Rodgers’ signature guitar over some “frenetic banjo playing by Urban” set to a “pulsating club beat”.
“His fans may have some kind of problem at first,” Rodgers said of the collaboration. “But my biggest records have always been like that. A lot of people, the only record they ever bought by David Bowie was Let’s Dance. That’s at least [seven] million albums — he’d never sold anything near that before. So his fanbase got angry: ‘This sucks! This is not Ziggy Stardust! That’s not Scary Monsters!’ But it was huge because it spoke to a broader audience. I think a record like this will speak to a broader audience [for Urban], and the country people will come around.” Here’s hoping eh?
Earlier this year, Urban teamed up with Jason DeRulo and Stevie Wonder on recent hit “Broke,” and his 2013 crossover album Fure saw the country star team up with a host of rap and pop producers. Listen to “Broke” below…
