Guilty of Being Write: Read the letter a teenaged Dave Grohl penned to Ian MacKaye

The internet can be a weird place, but every now and then something surfaces that makes it all worthwhile.

Earlier today, the Foo Fighters’ twitter account shared a letter written by a teenaged Dave Grohl seeking advice from DC hardcore punk legend Ian MacKaye. According to Spin, the former Minor Threat frontman recently uncovered the lost bit of fan mail, and now it belongs to the world.

Grohl, who started out in DC’s punk scene, was 14 at the time he wrote the letter. Though only a tiny part is visible, Grohl is eagerly looking for some contacts in the scene and passes along his phone number — which has probably blown up about a million times today.

If you’re looking to call in, please respect Grohl’s wishes and ring it up only between the hours of 3 and 10 p.m.

School, man, school.

Check out the note below. Meanwhile, Foo Fighters play Fenway Park July 18 and 19, and bring it back to DC for a holiday weekend blowout on July 4.

After the letter, watch Grohl interview MacKaye for his Sonic Highways series.
