We’re only a few months removed from the release of Bjork’s latest album, Vulnicura. But the Icelandic icon has supplied a whole new musical vision, albeit of music that is not hers, in an eclectic and engaging DJ mix she threw down this past Friday night.
As part of the Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York 2015, Bjork dropped the hour-long set at Tri Angle Records fifth anniversary party, held in a former bank vault on Wall Street. As Pitchfork notes,
“[t]he party featured sets from artists associated with the label such as the Haxan Cloak, Evian Christ, Forest Swords, and Holy Other. Björk stopped by to do a surprise DJ set, too, and today, she uploaded the audio from her performance.”
The mix features Kate Bush, Death Grips, Jeremih, Brandy, CZ, Baka People, and a bunch of others (see below) that are fresh on our ears.
Here’s what Bjork had to say about it:
i would like to wish tri angle label an incredibly sublime birthday and thank for having been invited to dj at their party . couldnt possibly been more honoured than to play in that company !!! the mix i played was my present to them : merging together some of my fav beats last year with some of my fav vocalists doing some of their best songs :
!!! this is my tune-tinder !!!
