The first trailer for the upcoming live-action Jem And The Holograms movie is finally out, and there’s very little in it that feels truly outrageous.
It’s pretty much a new wave Hannah Montana for millennials.
As many on social media have pointed out, there are no magical holograms, there are no evil Misfits, and there is no, as far as we can tell, existence of the Synergy computer system, which was vital to the original ’80s cartoon series. But we do have a coming-of-age story of a band gaining fame in the world of social media (!), a few teens on the verge of signing a major label recording contract (!!), and a One Direction song (!!!).
Oh.
Here’s the description from comingsoon.net, which you won’t care about once you watch the international trailer, down below: “As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.
The film stars Aubrey Peeples as Jem, Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau as Shana, Hayley Kiyoko as Aja and Ryan Guzman as Rio. Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis are also in it.
Jem and the Holograms is out October 23. The North American trailer premiered on Buzzfeed; below is what appears to be the international trailer. Doesn’t really matter, you get the idea.
