A while back we caught Manchester band PINS at Reykjavik’s Bar 11 during Iceland Airwaves, and tucked into a set filled with hazy, atmospheric sounds that bounced from sharp post-punk to droning psych rock was a cover of Misfits’ never-gets-old late-’70s classic, “Hybrid Moments”.
And now we have a proper recording of it, as the cover is featured as the b-side to the band’s “Too Little Too Late” 7-inch single, a teaser to the June 8 release of debut LP Wild Nights (Bella Union).
“It’s my favorite Misfits song,” singer Faith Vern told Vanyaland after their Bar 11 set back in November. “We were trying to decide on a cover for ages, and that was like an easy fun one so we just did it and figured we should play it live because it’s nice and fast.”
“Hybrid Moments,” like most classic Misfits tracks, always had a pop center to it, and here PINS gloss it up girl-group style, while retaining its familiar breakneck pace. This song has been covered by pretty much everyone, and by now it’s law to listen to it a gazillion times every October, and yet, it never… gets… old.
