After a huge 2014 that saw them tour successfully tour Asia and Australia and be awarded their own day in their hometown of Beverly, Massachusetts, celebrated post-rock ensemble Caspian has outlined their plans for the year ahead: it involves a new record, intercontinental listening parties, and a headlining appearance at Dunk Festival in Belgium.
And that’s just the start of it.
Writing on Facebook this morning, Caspian guitarist Philip Jamieson revealed Caspian’s fourth album, the band’s first since 2012’s Waking Season, is due in autumn. But long before its release, Caspian want to share the record with fans. Check out his note below, which includes details on the new album and a query on where Caspian should bring the new material for select listening parties first.
Phil here…
We expect to finish our currently untitled 4th full length album this April, and release it sometime this Autumn. We’ll be recording it with Matt Bayles again this March here in Massachusetts, and mixing it out in Seattle directly following. Upon its completion, we’ll be doing an exclusive performance at Dunk Festival in Belgium this May.
Would anyone in Europe like to hear the entire record, many months before it is released, on a pair of your favorite headphones, together with me and 25 or so other CASPIAN fans this May?
The plan is to get together in a public place (a park, the woods.. we’ll figure it out), press play together, talk about the record, etc… We can also meet up quietly, spin the album and leave it at that. Whatever floats your boat. We’d have to charge some kind of “entrance fee” so that I can afford airfare. Nothing crazy. If this works out, then I’ll do the same thing over here in America. This record is a very personal one for our band and we want to interact with you about it. It’s also a great way to hang out with some like minded folks and have a nice time together. What do you say, friends? What cities should I visit? Where should we listen to this thing?
All the best,
Philip and CASPIAN
Check out the results to the band’s inquiry on their Facebook page. Right now it seems London is in the lead.
Last month, the band announced that their 10th anniversary hometown performance at the Larcom Theatre will be commemorated with a DVD release. Check out the trailer for that after the festival poster jump. In case you missed it, October 18, 2014 was declared Caspian Day in Beverly.
