Vanyaland Premiere: Watch the Rare Occasions go behind the scenes in ‘Halfheartedly’

It’s a rare occasion when the Rare Occasions aren’t busy rocking out. The Boston quartet earned high masks for its 2014 EP Feelers, led by the swirling guitar storm of lead track “Dysphonic.” But a deeper listen into the record shows the lads have a knack for melody beyond the clouds, evident on the fluorescent-lit post-indie jam “Halfheartedly.”

Today the Rare Occasions released a video for that track, a behind-the-scenes peek into the studio during the recording of Feelers, filmed at the Record Company studio in Boston.

“We’re releasing this video just before Valentine’s Day due to the lyrical message of the song,” says guitarist/vocalist Brian McLaughlin. “The take you see is the take we used on the record, except for vocals and some guitar overdubs (i.e. the video is us laying down the basic tracks and the audio is the finished song).”

The Rare Occasions are featured on the Heavy Rotation Records Dorm Sessions Vol. 10 compilation that was released earlier this month, and will play at the comp’s release party at the Berklee Performance Center on February 18. Also on the bill are Amy & the Engine, Oh, Malô, Fever Charm and others.
