New Arrival: Listen to Thundersnow, the first local band born during Blizzard Juno

During yesterday’s Blizzard Juno, a few dozen babies were born around New England. The first arrived at Boston’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital in the early a.m. hours of Tuesday morning; others popped up at places like Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and a residential home down on Nantucket. Everybody loves a good Baby Born During The Blizzard news story.

But in Somerville, the music scene welcomed a bouncing baby band, a group of snowed-in roommates composed of members of Mean Creek, CreaturoS, Stereo Telescope, Hallelujah The Hills, and others.

They are called Thundersnow, and they came to party. Listen to their debut guitar-rocking jam “Snowed Out” below, and download the track via their freshly minted Bandcamp.

“Mikey [Holland] and I wanted to party and make music, and then we were all home and everybody got involved and we all made it together,” says Kurt Schneider. “Just good buds having a great time! We stayed up late [Monday] night working on it and woke up at the early hour of 1 p.m. [Tuesday] and all made brunch and bloodys together and then all hung out in the basement and finished it up.”

Schneider adds it was all “big house, collaborative, party time fun!”

It sure beats shoveling driveways. Cheers to that.
